Dear Gimle Users,
we have installed two new products from Intel on Gimle this week. Those
of you who were at the Intel HPC Training Course at NSC earlier this
year already know about them and might be eager to test them.
Intel Inspector XE
------------------
"Intel(R) Inspector XE is a dynamic memory and threading error checking
tool for users developing serial and multithreaded applications [...]"
To use it, login to Gimle with X11 forwarding active. Allocate a compute
node using "interactive -N1", and then do
module add inspector-xe
inspxe-gui
to start the GUI. To view the documentation, do:
konqueror /software/intel/inspector_xe_2011.u3/documentation/en/documentation_inspector_xe.htm
Intel VTune Amplifier XE
------------------------
"The Intel(R) VTune(TM) Amplifier XE, an Intel(R) Parallel Studio XE
tool, provides information on code performance for users developing
serial and multithreaded applications [...]"
To use it, login to Gimle with X11 forwarding active. Allocate a compute
node using "interactive -N1", and then do
module add vtune-amplifier-xe
amplxe-gui
to start the GUI. To view the documentation, do:
konqueror /software/intel/vtune_amplifier_xe_2011.u3/documentation/en/documentation_amplifier.htm
Please note: at the moment only the analyses based on user-mode sampling
and trace collection ("Hotspots", "Concurrency" and "Locks and Waits")
are available. The ones using hardware event-based sampling collection
may become available later.
As you see in the instructions above, we ask you to run these tools on
compute nodes, not the login node.
