[Neolith-users] nobackup full

Hi,

Some time this morning, between 7 and 10, the /nobackup/global file
system on Neolith got completely full. This prevented writes to all
files on that file system, and of course disrupted several compute jobs
as well as interactive work.

Right now there is disk space available. We removed some files, and some
of you have removed files as well.

We were already working on increasing the amount of storage on Neolith,
and will increase the priority of that project. In the mean time you can
all help to make sure that the file system does not fill up again.

* Delete files you no longer need.

* Delete big checkpoint/restart files if you don't need them.

* Don't keep years of old results on Neolith, it is not a data archiving
  service.

* Compress your files. Output files from several scientific programs can
be compressed to save a lot of disk space. Standard compression tools
like gzip and bzip2 work well.

* Use the command "nscquota" to monitor your disk usage.

If you need help or advice please contact us at support at nsc.liu.se.

Kind regards,

Pär Andersson
